November Meeting – Report

The evening commenced with an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) called to adopted the revised CARA Constitution published in September’s CARA News. The Motion to adopt the revised Constitution, proposed by the Committe, was passed unanimously.

The main part of the meeting was a presentation by Iain M0PCB about the recent 2SZ special event station at Mill Hill School, London, to celebrate the 90th annivesary of the first ever radio contact between the UK and New Zealand, in fact the first ever world-wide radio contact. Iain screened a video of the operation which showed the setting-up of two HF stations in the school building with an 80ft tower outside carrying an HF yagi and suporting dipoles for the lower frequency bands, plus a full size vertical for 80m. The video also showed the station in operation, including the re-enactment of the 1924 QSO which was featured on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme. Iain was one of operators. A fascinating presentation which evoked many questions and comments. Very many thanks to Iain for a most enjoyable and informative evening.
